HISTORY

The Kansas Rural Housing Coalition (KRHC) was a year-long initiative that brought together Kansas community leaders representing over 200 businesses, nonprofits, and communities.  The goal was to share ideas and insights related to affordable housing.  The initiative began with the Kansas Housing Conference, which was held in Wichita on December 10, 2013.  The event was co-hosted by J. Van Sickle & Company, the Kansas Leadership Center, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In 2014, the agenda set at the conference was used to guide community conversations in local and regional meetings across the state.  Lessons learned from those meetings were used to provide communities with shared insights on ways to deal with housing issues.  One of the largest efforts of KRHC was the Kansas Housing Research Project.  That project involved the creation of a free 84-page housing study for every city and county in Kansas – over 700 reports totaling 60,000+ pages of housing information, data, and analysis.  Those reports were made available to the public through this website (see the Reports tab above).

Even though the efforts of KRHC were completed by the end of 2014, the insights gained through the work of KRHC members continues to have a positive impact.  To help facilitate those efforts, this site remains active as an archive of the information and insights gathered by the KRHC initiative.  Those resources can be accessed through the links above.
